Old People, New Stuff and Singing

Researching my family history is something that I have always wanted to do, but I have never taken the time to do it. Well last weekend I started doing it because I really want Zoe to know who her family is and where she came from. I'm also curious to see just how far back I can go. In certain family lines I have (I believe) identified 5th great grandparents, which is just crazy. Once I have a good, solid base of information, I'll post something here for all to see. If you have any information about someone related to Zoe, please don't hesitate to share it with me. I can use all the help I can get.

Since I don't have any pictures from the family tree at this time, here are some that Cheryl took of Zoe in front of her mirror.

We started setting up some new things for Zoe. One was a new jump-a-roo, which she really isn't big enough for yet. We have to put a blanket in the back to keep her from slumping over and place a large graphic novel (The Walking Dead Volume 1) under her feet so she can actually bounce. The other thing we finally decided to give a try is her high chair. She is still a little small for it, but it should work out pretty well to keep her upright and possibly playing with some toys. Here are a few pictures of each.

Yes, that is a doll that she's eating in her high chair. I really don't know where she gets that from.

The last thing I wanted to share was about Zoe's bedtime routine. Just before she is laid in her crib, I sign her a few verses of We'll Meet Again. The other night Cheryl and I both sung it to her and she smiled at both of us. Probably because we make such a lovely duet. Well tonight Cheryl had to sing to her because I was at a roller derby bout during bedtime and she said that Zoe was looking over her shoulder, apparently trying to see where I was because she knew I wasn't singing. I'm not sure if that's true, but if it is, it is one of the sweetest things I've ever heard.

Tomorrow Zoe turns 4 months old, so as long as the weather cooperates, expect another post with more pictures.

Paris - Day Five: Louvre, More Gardens, Photobooths, Macaroons, Love

Today was scheduled to be a somewhat random day. We didn't have anything specific we were planning to do, meaning no pre-purchased tickets, but a number of stops to make and things to see. The first stop on our list for the day was a photobooth that was out near Moulin Rouge. It was in a giant, open gallery space where there were people dancing and vendors selling food. We found the booth and took a few pictures. Right near the booth there was an old trailer of some sort that was converted in to a little library. Since Zoe loves books, even if they're in a language she doesn't read, she went in and browsed the selection. She then said she'd like one of these for our house back home. We'll see what we can do. She didn't actually take the book with us, but she wanted to pose with it. At this point it was time to get something to eat, so we hopped on the Metro and took it to Cafe des 2 Moulins, the restaurant from the movie Amelie. The food was great, the...

Girls Night Out Dance

Zoe has her first dance at school, the Girls Night Out Dance, where she brought me as her date. It had been quite some time since I was at such a formal affair, but thankfully I was still able to squeeze in to my suit. Zoe looked as gorgeous as her mother with her fancy clothes, her makeup, and the big bow in her hair. We took a few pictures before we left for the dance, just to capture the moment. I drove us over to the school, and we arrived right on time, beating the crowd. A few of Zoe's friends were there, and before they turned the lights off, I took one, not-so-good, picture. It is nice to know that, as time goes by, some things never change. There was very little dancing for the two of us at the dance. She was very interested in the snacks (treats), the lights that were on the tables, but mostly in the pull up bar at the back of the gym. She spent a solid 15 minutes moving around gym mats so she could stand on them and hang from the bar. Other kids came and went,...

Paris - Day One: Airline Trouble, Eiffel Tower, Metro

We woke up Monday morning to find out that our flight from Newark to Paris had been cancelled, but we were rebooked to fly out the next day on the same flight. Cheryl worked her magic and we transferred to a new flight out of JFK, through London, to Paris with a minimal delay in the timing. With that out of the way, we packed in to the car, made it to JFK and waited for our plane to take off. Fortunately there was plenty of entertainment in the airport, and some sleep on the plane. Unfortunately, when we finally got to Paris, Zoe's bag was missing. Apparently it didn't make the connection. She took the news fairly well. The airline personnel assured us that the bag was on its way and would be delivered to us by 2, 3 at the latest. With that we hopped in a cab to our apartment, which was located in the 10th Arrondissement of Paris. Since it was now Tuesday, thanks to the time change and length of the flight, we wanted to make the most of it, so we set out for the Eiffel...
