Fooling Around and a Trip to the Aquarium

As time marches on, the times when I have a camera in hand, or even take pictures with my phone, seem to be coming less and less. This is probably a good thing, because there was a moment there was way too many pictures were being taken. It's a delicate balance of being in the moment as opposed to capturing the moment.

Anyway, the camera was out the other day while Zoe was sharing a drink with Cheryl (virgin, of course), brushing her toy's hair and playing with her gems. As always, she is super cute.

Zoe and I also had a chance to take advantage of our aquarium membership before it expired by driving across the Ben Franklin in to Camden. She really enjoys walking around, looking at the animals and interacting with the different displays. It was kind of funny that we happened to be right near the tank where Santa was diving in and, even behind a glass way in a tank of water, she still wanted nothing to do with him. Thankfully, we ran in to Rudolph, who she adores from his 1964 TV special, and she gave him a big hug.

There are a few more pictures in the Adventure Aquarium set on Flickr. I'm sure this won't be our last visit since Zoe really likes seeing the hippos, who she refers to as Stinky Lous. In case this wasn't mentioned in a previous post, Stinky Lou is the name we gave to the hippo we saw at the zoo down in Florida, so now all hippos are Stinky Lou.

Paris - Day Five: Louvre, More Gardens, Photobooths, Macaroons, Love

Today was scheduled to be a somewhat random day. We didn't have anything specific we were planning to do, meaning no pre-purchased tickets, but a number of stops to make and things to see. The first stop on our list for the day was a photobooth that was out near Moulin Rouge. It was in a giant, open gallery space where there were people dancing and vendors selling food. We found the booth and took a few pictures. Right near the booth there was an old trailer of some sort that was converted in to a little library. Since Zoe loves books, even if they're in a language she doesn't read, she went in and browsed the selection. She then said she'd like one of these for our house back home. We'll see what we can do. She didn't actually take the book with us, but she wanted to pose with it. At this point it was time to get something to eat, so we hopped on the Metro and took it to Cafe des 2 Moulins, the restaurant from the movie Amelie. The food was great, the...

Girls Night Out Dance

Zoe has her first dance at school, the Girls Night Out Dance, where she brought me as her date. It had been quite some time since I was at such a formal affair, but thankfully I was still able to squeeze in to my suit. Zoe looked as gorgeous as her mother with her fancy clothes, her makeup, and the big bow in her hair. We took a few pictures before we left for the dance, just to capture the moment. I drove us over to the school, and we arrived right on time, beating the crowd. A few of Zoe's friends were there, and before they turned the lights off, I took one, not-so-good, picture. It is nice to know that, as time goes by, some things never change. There was very little dancing for the two of us at the dance. She was very interested in the snacks (treats), the lights that were on the tables, but mostly in the pull up bar at the back of the gym. She spent a solid 15 minutes moving around gym mats so she could stand on them and hang from the bar. Other kids came and went,...

Paris - Day One: Airline Trouble, Eiffel Tower, Metro

We woke up Monday morning to find out that our flight from Newark to Paris had been cancelled, but we were rebooked to fly out the next day on the same flight. Cheryl worked her magic and we transferred to a new flight out of JFK, through London, to Paris with a minimal delay in the timing. With that out of the way, we packed in to the car, made it to JFK and waited for our plane to take off. Fortunately there was plenty of entertainment in the airport, and some sleep on the plane. Unfortunately, when we finally got to Paris, Zoe's bag was missing. Apparently it didn't make the connection. She took the news fairly well. The airline personnel assured us that the bag was on its way and would be delivered to us by 2, 3 at the latest. With that we hopped in a cab to our apartment, which was located in the 10th Arrondissement of Paris. Since it was now Tuesday, thanks to the time change and length of the flight, we wanted to make the most of it, so we set out for the Eiffel...
