Play Time, Brunch and Visits

Zoe does a lot of playing both in school and at home. The other day I was hoping to get some pictures of her dressed up as a doctor and she obliged me... for the most part. She was very good at doing some serious doctor poses.

But she was also really good at showing her beautiful smile.

One of Zoe's favorite gift combinations is her bin of kinetic sand and her Barbie and Ken dolls. For some reason those two love going to the nude beach and getting buried in the sand while wearing the silliest of hats, and Zoe is always more than happy to oblige. Here she was burying them while wearing one of her sparkly, red tiaras.

When Zoe's gymnastics class is over, we typically drive up the street to have a lovely brunch at Wendy's, also known as Fry Fry House. What you may not know is that when we're there, or anywhere else, Zoe talks non-stop. Now she's still fairly camera shy, so what I'm able to capture on video is never what it's really like, but, for those of you who have not experienced this loquacious glory, here you go. Be sure to turn on the closed captions if you want to know what she's saying.

I also find it amazing that for a few spoonfuls of frosty she'll gladly eat her food. That, to me, is a very fair trade. After this particular outing to Wendy's we made a stop to see baby Karim. Zoe is always so excited to see him, as well as Becky and Hicham. She even posed (sort of) for a few pictures.

So that documents a fairly busy, but somewhat standard, long weekend. There aren't always as many visits with friends, and there are certainly fewer pictures, but that is about the level of fun.

Girls Night Out Dance

Zoe has her first dance at school, the Girls Night Out Dance, where she brought me as her date. It had been quite some time since I was at such a formal affair, but thankfully I was still able to squeeze in to my suit. Zoe looked as gorgeous as her mother with her fancy clothes, her makeup, and the big bow in her hair. We took a few pictures before we left for the dance, just to capture the moment. I drove us over to the school, and we arrived right on time, beating the crowd. A few of Zoe's friends were there, and before they turned the lights off, I took one, not-so-good, picture. It is nice to know that, as time goes by, some things never change. There was very little dancing for the two of us at the dance. She was very interested in the snacks (treats), the lights that were on the tables, but mostly in the pull up bar at the back of the gym. She spent a solid 15 minutes moving around gym mats so she could stand on them and hang from the bar. Other kids came and went,...

Paris - Day Five: Louvre, More Gardens, Photobooths, Macaroons, Love

Today was scheduled to be a somewhat random day. We didn't have anything specific we were planning to do, meaning no pre-purchased tickets, but a number of stops to make and things to see. The first stop on our list for the day was a photobooth that was out near Moulin Rouge. It was in a giant, open gallery space where there were people dancing and vendors selling food. We found the booth and took a few pictures. Right near the booth there was an old trailer of some sort that was converted in to a little library. Since Zoe loves books, even if they're in a language she doesn't read, she went in and browsed the selection. She then said she'd like one of these for our house back home. We'll see what we can do. She didn't actually take the book with us, but she wanted to pose with it. At this point it was time to get something to eat, so we hopped on the Metro and took it to Cafe des 2 Moulins, the restaurant from the movie Amelie. The food was great, the...

Election Day

When Zoe was born, Barack Obama was the president. Today the country is voting to determine who will be president for the next four years. It will still be a long time before Zoe gets to cast her own vote, but when Cheryl got home today, the two of them went around the corner to our voting center and did their civic duty. Cheryl took a couple of pictures. The girls are asleep now, and the race is still too close to call, but I assume when we get up tomorrow (hopefully not in the middle of the night) we'll know who who won. I hope everyone got out to vote today! As you can see by her sticker, Zoe did.
