Blueberries are the Jam!

With the fourth of July falling on a Saturday, Cheryl and I both had off on Friday the third. That being the case, and our lack of freshly jarred jams, we decided to spend the morning at Linvilla picking blueberries and peaches. We didn't get up too early, but we got there with plenty of good picking weather ahead of us. Not only did Zoe do a great job picking ripe berries (she was really good at identifying ones that were more blue than purple) but she also talked so much that she kept us and anyone else nearby entertained with her observations. Here are just a few pictures.

After we picked a pallet full of berries we rode the tractor back to the car. We were picking for over an hour, so we were all in the mood for some play. Zoe drove us down to the other end of the farm with the animals and playground. She did pretty good for a first timer.

Once we were safely parked, we made our way to the playground and the animals. Zoe did a good job feeding them and running around like a madwoman.

We all had a great time. One thing that was kind of strange were some of the animals they had. Cheryl managed to get a picture of two of the weirder animals.

So bizarre! Anyway, there are a bunch of other pictures over in the Linvilla album on Flickr, so be sure to check them out. If you don't, I fear that you might get a visit from this little girl.

Paris - Day Five: Louvre, More Gardens, Photobooths, Macaroons, Love

Today was scheduled to be a somewhat random day. We didn't have anything specific we were planning to do, meaning no pre-purchased tickets, but a number of stops to make and things to see. The first stop on our list for the day was a photobooth that was out near Moulin Rouge. It was in a giant, open gallery space where there were people dancing and vendors selling food. We found the booth and took a few pictures. Right near the booth there was an old trailer of some sort that was converted in to a little library. Since Zoe loves books, even if they're in a language she doesn't read, she went in and browsed the selection. She then said she'd like one of these for our house back home. We'll see what we can do. She didn't actually take the book with us, but she wanted to pose with it. At this point it was time to get something to eat, so we hopped on the Metro and took it to Cafe des 2 Moulins, the restaurant from the movie Amelie. The food was great, the...

Girls Night Out Dance

Zoe has her first dance at school, the Girls Night Out Dance, where she brought me as her date. It had been quite some time since I was at such a formal affair, but thankfully I was still able to squeeze in to my suit. Zoe looked as gorgeous as her mother with her fancy clothes, her makeup, and the big bow in her hair. We took a few pictures before we left for the dance, just to capture the moment. I drove us over to the school, and we arrived right on time, beating the crowd. A few of Zoe's friends were there, and before they turned the lights off, I took one, not-so-good, picture. It is nice to know that, as time goes by, some things never change. There was very little dancing for the two of us at the dance. She was very interested in the snacks (treats), the lights that were on the tables, but mostly in the pull up bar at the back of the gym. She spent a solid 15 minutes moving around gym mats so she could stand on them and hang from the bar. Other kids came and went,...

Paris - Day One: Airline Trouble, Eiffel Tower, Metro

We woke up Monday morning to find out that our flight from Newark to Paris had been cancelled, but we were rebooked to fly out the next day on the same flight. Cheryl worked her magic and we transferred to a new flight out of JFK, through London, to Paris with a minimal delay in the timing. With that out of the way, we packed in to the car, made it to JFK and waited for our plane to take off. Fortunately there was plenty of entertainment in the airport, and some sleep on the plane. Unfortunately, when we finally got to Paris, Zoe's bag was missing. Apparently it didn't make the connection. She took the news fairly well. The airline personnel assured us that the bag was on its way and would be delivered to us by 2, 3 at the latest. With that we hopped in a cab to our apartment, which was located in the 10th Arrondissement of Paris. Since it was now Tuesday, thanks to the time change and length of the flight, we wanted to make the most of it, so we set out for the Eiffel...
