Moving On Over

As some of you probably already know, we are selling our house and buying a new one. Since we won't be able to hop right from old to new, we are sliding into a temporary house that's still out in West Philly. The big move out of the old house happened the weekend after Thanksgiving. While Zoe hung out at Mimi and Joe Pop's, Cheryl and I made sure that she came into the new house in a welcoming way. Once big change was that we said goodbye to her crib and moved her all the way up into a big girl bed. Here's what things look like right now.

The first two pictures with the purple bed are Zoe's new, temporary playroom. She is sharing it with Cheryl's clothes in the closet, but she has plenty of space to play and the TV is all set and ready to go. The next two pictures with the pink bed are Zoe's new, temporary bedroom. She has her big girl bed and a large bookcase for her books and clothes and other knickknacks. The last one is the living room, which still needs to have some stuff put away, but looks pretty good already.

Cheryl and I were both ecstatic that Zoe seemed to really like her "new" house and was happy and positive about the transition. The next day we took some time to build an early gingerbread house. I put the house together and we all did some decorating. Some of us ate more decorations than we applied to the house, but that's just how these construction jobs go some times.

The end result looked great. I think it is our best house to date. Now we just have to wait and see how long it lasts.

Paris - Day Five: Louvre, More Gardens, Photobooths, Macaroons, Love

Today was scheduled to be a somewhat random day. We didn't have anything specific we were planning to do, meaning no pre-purchased tickets, but a number of stops to make and things to see. The first stop on our list for the day was a photobooth that was out near Moulin Rouge. It was in a giant, open gallery space where there were people dancing and vendors selling food. We found the booth and took a few pictures. Right near the booth there was an old trailer of some sort that was converted in to a little library. Since Zoe loves books, even if they're in a language she doesn't read, she went in and browsed the selection. She then said she'd like one of these for our house back home. We'll see what we can do. She didn't actually take the book with us, but she wanted to pose with it. At this point it was time to get something to eat, so we hopped on the Metro and took it to Cafe des 2 Moulins, the restaurant from the movie Amelie. The food was great, the...

Girls Night Out Dance

Zoe has her first dance at school, the Girls Night Out Dance, where she brought me as her date. It had been quite some time since I was at such a formal affair, but thankfully I was still able to squeeze in to my suit. Zoe looked as gorgeous as her mother with her fancy clothes, her makeup, and the big bow in her hair. We took a few pictures before we left for the dance, just to capture the moment. I drove us over to the school, and we arrived right on time, beating the crowd. A few of Zoe's friends were there, and before they turned the lights off, I took one, not-so-good, picture. It is nice to know that, as time goes by, some things never change. There was very little dancing for the two of us at the dance. She was very interested in the snacks (treats), the lights that were on the tables, but mostly in the pull up bar at the back of the gym. She spent a solid 15 minutes moving around gym mats so she could stand on them and hang from the bar. Other kids came and went,...

Paris - Day One: Airline Trouble, Eiffel Tower, Metro

We woke up Monday morning to find out that our flight from Newark to Paris had been cancelled, but we were rebooked to fly out the next day on the same flight. Cheryl worked her magic and we transferred to a new flight out of JFK, through London, to Paris with a minimal delay in the timing. With that out of the way, we packed in to the car, made it to JFK and waited for our plane to take off. Fortunately there was plenty of entertainment in the airport, and some sleep on the plane. Unfortunately, when we finally got to Paris, Zoe's bag was missing. Apparently it didn't make the connection. She took the news fairly well. The airline personnel assured us that the bag was on its way and would be delivered to us by 2, 3 at the latest. With that we hopped in a cab to our apartment, which was located in the 10th Arrondissement of Paris. Since it was now Tuesday, thanks to the time change and length of the flight, we wanted to make the most of it, so we set out for the Eiffel...
