Christmas Day 2015

Christmas is a magical time of year where mountains of gifts are given to children and they generally seem more enamored with the packaging than the present. Of course I'm kidding, the kids all loved their gifts this year, which was pretty awesome to see. To start off the day Zoe got to open more presents at home with Nana and Poppy, since she got to open some the night before.

There was definitely a Frozen theme to a majority of gifts, which continued through the day as we made our way to Mimi and Joe Pop's.The piles of toys reminded me of the forts we would make with our presents when we were young. One toy that Zoe enjoyed unwrapping and showing off later was her Frozen guitar.

She was so happy with it she needed to play it right away. So there were a few stills of her impromptu concert, along with a little video.

She really enjoys rocking out. Cheryl and I always love it when she sings and we're always amazed at how many lyrics she knows. Granted, she's not always singing the most kid friendly songs, but she is her mother's daughter. At some point Zoe agreed to a family picture, but she apparently stipulated that she wouldn't smile or take out her bink.

Once all that was done, the children decided it was time to jump on Joe Pop because what else is Joe Pop good for but jumping on? He may have enjoyed it more than the kids.

It was a very full day of family and fun and lots of presents. I'm surprised we didn't have to strap something or someone to the roof to get everything home. When we finally arrived, we put everything under our tree, as best we could.

We hope everyone else had a wonderful holiday.

Girls Night Out Dance

Zoe has her first dance at school, the Girls Night Out Dance, where she brought me as her date. It had been quite some time since I was at such a formal affair, but thankfully I was still able to squeeze in to my suit. Zoe looked as gorgeous as her mother with her fancy clothes, her makeup, and the big bow in her hair. We took a few pictures before we left for the dance, just to capture the moment. I drove us over to the school, and we arrived right on time, beating the crowd. A few of Zoe's friends were there, and before they turned the lights off, I took one, not-so-good, picture. It is nice to know that, as time goes by, some things never change. There was very little dancing for the two of us at the dance. She was very interested in the snacks (treats), the lights that were on the tables, but mostly in the pull up bar at the back of the gym. She spent a solid 15 minutes moving around gym mats so she could stand on them and hang from the bar. Other kids came and went,...

Italy - Day 6 - Rome

Since this was our last full day in Rome, we decided to head towards Vatican City. After crossing a bridge, we made our way down the steps to follow the Tiber because Zoe wanted to explore closer to the water. Approaching the Vatican, we stopped just out of smoting range, for Cheryl's protection, before deciding that the view from the gates would suffice. From there we decided we would head out to try some very highly recommended pizza from Bonci. Zoe had to make a stop along the way for some gelato and a bathroom break, which was great because it took an hour to get our food. That being said, it was totally worth the wait! The pizza was amazing and the deep fried pasta balls were bizarre and delicious. While Cheryl was waiting, Zoe and I bought from fresh fruit and vegetables so that she would have something to eat. After a late lunch, we decided to make our way home. As we were about to cross the river, we passed Castle San Angelo and decided to make a stop. Thi...

Election Day

When Zoe was born, Barack Obama was the president. Today the country is voting to determine who will be president for the next four years. It will still be a long time before Zoe gets to cast her own vote, but when Cheryl got home today, the two of them went around the corner to our voting center and did their civic duty. Cheryl took a couple of pictures. The girls are asleep now, and the race is still too close to call, but I assume when we get up tomorrow (hopefully not in the middle of the night) we'll know who who won. I hope everyone got out to vote today! As you can see by her sticker, Zoe did.
