To the Creek!

For the past three days now, Zoe has asked that we go in to the creek. This started on Sunday, after Nana arrived, and the weather was just starting to get nice again. She had her coat, and her backpack, and her boots, and her skirt.

She did an excellent job navigating through the water and over the rocks. There was an excellent display of balance and courage, while still asking me which path was the best to take to reach a certain spot. Monday night, as soon as I got home, there was the question, "Daddy, can we go in the creek." So we got dressed, this time in shorts, since it was warmer out, grabbed a sieve and a walking stick and did some more exploring.

It was a lot of fun and we picked up a few extra rocks and pieces of broken pottery for her collections. On Tuesday night, again, as soon as I walked in the door, I was asked to head down to the creek. She was convinced that it would be better to wait until after dinner, this way we would both have more energy to play. This night started off similarly, with a skirt and some boots, but soon the boots came off and there were bare feet in the water.

Then, once she realized she had free reign to get in to the water, Cheryl brought down a bathing suit and towel so that she could really get in there. Again, her agility at climbing around the rocks was impressive. She did most of it on her own, but I was always there to lend a hand if she needed to be pulled from the water or get across a large gap.

She seems to really love that creek and I am super happy we have it as part of our yard. Now I just need to work on an easier way of getting down there, since right now she holds on piggyback-style as we make our descent.

Election Day

When Zoe was born, Barack Obama was the president. Today the country is voting to determine who will be president for the next four years. It will still be a long time before Zoe gets to cast her own vote, but when Cheryl got home today, the two of them went around the corner to our voting center and did their civic duty. Cheryl took a couple of pictures. The girls are asleep now, and the race is still too close to call, but I assume when we get up tomorrow (hopefully not in the middle of the night) we'll know who who won. I hope everyone got out to vote today! As you can see by her sticker, Zoe did.

Riding Together for the First Time

Today my bike was finally fixed, so I picked it up from the shop before picking Zoe up from Science Club. When she saw my bike she was very excited to go for a ride. It was overcast all day, but the weather held out and it was a beautiful evening, so we rushed home, she finished all her homework, and I loaded her bike onto the car. I packed a bag with some water and a couple snacks and we made our way to Lorimer Park. Before we took off down the trail, I wanted to take a selfie, but I was so excited that I forgot my helmet, so there are two selfies. As soon as I finished the picture she took off down the path. Fortunately I was able to catch up, phone in hand, to take a few pictures as we cruised down the trail. I am a mostly competent bike rider, but trying to pay attention to her, and the trail, and keep myself upright while holding my phone was tricky. So, I decided to take some video where, for the most part, I could rest my hand on the handlebars. She is so good a...

Visit from Nana and Poppy

To make sure she didn't forget about her parent's birthday's, Cheryl gave them their presents on the day of the baby shower. For her father, she got a nice webcam so that we could Skype with them to interact with Zoe. A few weeks ago we had done that for the first time and it actually worked out really well. So on Monday, April 2nd, Cheryl's parents came up from Florida to meet Zoe face to face for the first time. On one day Cheryl and Zoe went to Clark Park with Nana and Poppy. Later in the week Cheryl's sister Debbie came by with her daughters, Zoe's cousins, Ashlee and Taylor. Just before they left, Cheryl remembered to take a picture. Here's Zoe with her cousin Taylor. As always, you can find all of these pictures and more in Zoe's Set on Flickr.
