The Halloween season has come and gone, and each year it seems to pass by faster and faster. This year seemed to zip by, either that or my procrastination is getting exponentially worse. Anyway, it seemed that the selection of costumes in the stores was especially motivational, since one more than one occasion an impromptu dress-up show was done in the aisles.
Along with that there was some sweet gingerbread haunted house construction, complete with spooky after effects and a lesson in good nutrition.
This year, with Zoe now in Kindergarten, she had her first Halloween parade at school. All of the kids were dressed in their finest and some of the hand crafted costumes were impressive and inspirational.
After the parade, as the light was fading and the time to head out for candy was fast approaching, we took some pictures in the backyard of our family costumes. This year we went with a Moana theme. Zoe was Moana, Cheryl was the goddess Te Fiti, and I was Maui. We looked pretty awesome as a group.
At that point it was finally time to go out and get the candy. We stopped by Olivia's house to meet up with her and her sister and then braved the elements, and the spooky house decorations, to try and score the sweet stuff.
Zoe made it until almost 7:30pm before she had her fill and was ready to go home. When we got there, she was delighted to hand out candy, silently, to the dozen or so trick or treaters who happened to make it down to our house. Around 9:00pm we saw Olivia and her dad heading past our house to call it a night. We were surprised they quit so early. Shortly after Halloween the costumes went on sale and Cheryl snatched up these two beauties, which Zoe and I were happy to model.
Finally we got to the weekend after Halloween and our second annual party. I fired up the actual camera for this and, as always, dropped the ball on taking pictures. Luckily Jeffrey was on hand to help document part of the evening. Here are some simple introductions at the beginning.
It's amazing how many kids will stand still simply for the promise of lots and lots of candy.
Then it was time for the main event, the pumpkin pinata. Everyone got one swing, including me!
Once the pumpkin cracked open, it was a dog pile on the candy. I have to remember for next year, to spread the candy out from the pinata to help share the wealth.
Like I said at the beginning, this all came and went way too fast. Hopefully we can drag out next year's season and enjoy it a little more. Now it's time to put up the Christmas decorations!
