Pre-Birthday Catch Up

There is, generally speaking, always something going on and let's just say that I do not excel at keeping blog posts up to date. That being said, since Zoe's birthday is tomorrow, here are some of the things, both great and small, that Zoe has been doing.

She went to Nattai's birthday party and the karate dojo right around the corner from our house. There she learned how to kick, run obstacle relay races, and, most importantly, how to fight with a foam light saber.

After that we took a trip to help Mimi with her computer. Turns out that whatever she did was well beyond my capabilities. So we loaded in to the car and took a trip to Best Buy to get Mimi a new computer. While we were waiting, Zoe tested out her artistic ability on one of the floor models.

On our way to the creek one day, neither of us were paying close attention, and we startled some deer on the bridge, who, in turn, startled us. I got a quick picture of her waving to the deer just beyond the bridge before we made it down to the water.

But that's not the best part. The best part is I had the genius idea to let her use one of her snow tubes to ride down the creek like it was a water slide. If only the tube was big enough for me!

Finally, for Dr. Seuss Day at school, Zoe dressed up as the Cat in the Hat, and then got to take a sweet picture with her friend during the book fair.

And that about catches us up! Stay tuned for more miscellaneous posts about the random things we do.

Paris - Day Five: Louvre, More Gardens, Photobooths, Macaroons, Love

Today was scheduled to be a somewhat random day. We didn't have anything specific we were planning to do, meaning no pre-purchased tickets, but a number of stops to make and things to see. The first stop on our list for the day was a photobooth that was out near Moulin Rouge. It was in a giant, open gallery space where there were people dancing and vendors selling food. We found the booth and took a few pictures. Right near the booth there was an old trailer of some sort that was converted in to a little library. Since Zoe loves books, even if they're in a language she doesn't read, she went in and browsed the selection. She then said she'd like one of these for our house back home. We'll see what we can do. She didn't actually take the book with us, but she wanted to pose with it. At this point it was time to get something to eat, so we hopped on the Metro and took it to Cafe des 2 Moulins, the restaurant from the movie Amelie. The food was great, the...

Girls Night Out Dance

Zoe has her first dance at school, the Girls Night Out Dance, where she brought me as her date. It had been quite some time since I was at such a formal affair, but thankfully I was still able to squeeze in to my suit. Zoe looked as gorgeous as her mother with her fancy clothes, her makeup, and the big bow in her hair. We took a few pictures before we left for the dance, just to capture the moment. I drove us over to the school, and we arrived right on time, beating the crowd. A few of Zoe's friends were there, and before they turned the lights off, I took one, not-so-good, picture. It is nice to know that, as time goes by, some things never change. There was very little dancing for the two of us at the dance. She was very interested in the snacks (treats), the lights that were on the tables, but mostly in the pull up bar at the back of the gym. She spent a solid 15 minutes moving around gym mats so she could stand on them and hang from the bar. Other kids came and went,...

Paris - Day One: Airline Trouble, Eiffel Tower, Metro

We woke up Monday morning to find out that our flight from Newark to Paris had been cancelled, but we were rebooked to fly out the next day on the same flight. Cheryl worked her magic and we transferred to a new flight out of JFK, through London, to Paris with a minimal delay in the timing. With that out of the way, we packed in to the car, made it to JFK and waited for our plane to take off. Fortunately there was plenty of entertainment in the airport, and some sleep on the plane. Unfortunately, when we finally got to Paris, Zoe's bag was missing. Apparently it didn't make the connection. She took the news fairly well. The airline personnel assured us that the bag was on its way and would be delivered to us by 2, 3 at the latest. With that we hopped in a cab to our apartment, which was located in the 10th Arrondissement of Paris. Since it was now Tuesday, thanks to the time change and length of the flight, we wanted to make the most of it, so we set out for the Eiffel...
