Separation Anxiety

I just arrived in Philadelphia International Airport this morning. On July 9th I flew across the country to Las Vegas for a work conference. This was the first time that I have been away from Zoe, so it was pretty rough. Thankfully, with today's technology, I didn't have to miss seeing either of my lovely ladies. While she was at home with Cheryl, Nana and Poppy, I was able to use my phone to Skype with her on Cheryl's iPad. This is what it looked like on my phone.

And this is what it looked like back in Philadelphia.

Yes, that's her sharing wubby with me. She's such a sweet baby! With the conference over on Thursday night, since I was already most of the way across the country, I flew up to Seattle for the weekend to visit my goddaughter Annabelle who is 7 months older than Zoe. Here are a few pictures I took of her with my phone.

We had lots of fun swimming and playing together. I can't wait until she comes back this way in a couple of weeks. I can teach her some more choice phrases, like this one.

"I dirty rat?" She's just the cutest gangster ever. I can't wait until Zoe starts talking!

Meet the Flintstones?!?

Cheryl wanted me to share the following with everyone. These are her words, not mine. Frankly, I know I'm the lucky one. So obviously the blog is Michael's thing, which is great really because if it were up to me it would have started and ended with 99 days left! But I wanted to make a post so I could thank Michael for everything he has done for me throughout this pregnancy and most of all during delivery. There is no question that being with Michael is the smartest thing I've ever done and Zoe is lucky to call him Dad. The reason we had a planned c-section was that Zoe was 'unstable lie'. In the 4 weeks before she was due she was breech, head down, breech, and then head down again. As it was explained to us, this is pretty rare. They expected that even if she was in the right position when I went into labor, she would turn during contractions creating a dangerous situation for all of us. The day of surgery I was still pretty calm. Once I was prepp...

She Poops Because She Cares

One week ago today, Zoe was born. She seems to have adjusted to life in West Philly fairly well. Her pink blanket is one of her favorites to snuggle up with; however, we did learn that much like her father, she hates to bathe. So her first appointment with the peditrician was Wednesday at 11:00am. She seemed to enjoy her ride in the car again, and by that I mean she was passed out the whole way there. The doctor said she was looking good. The jaundice that she had in the hospital is no longer a concern now that she's eating and going to the bathroom regularly. Also, she's working her way back up to her birth weight. After being born at 8lbs 8ozs, she dropped down to 7lbs 13ozs when she was discharged from the hospital. At her appointment she weighed in at 8lbs 3ozs. Later in the day while I was out shopping for essentials (and comic books) Zoe was getting fussy with her mother. We're not entirely sure what the issue was, but we did find out that she loves her swing....

Italy - Day 1 - Getting to Rome

Our flight to Rome was scheduled for 11:00pm on Sunday, May 26th. Since that gave us a lot of time before we had to leave, Zoe and I went to Lorimer Park for a bike ride. We rode the Pennypack Trail all the way from Moredon Road to Welsh Road, which is about 1.7 miles. When we got to the end we turned around to head home. After about 100 feet Zoe's front wheel turned 90 degrees, her bike feel to the left, and she skidded to a stop on her hands and knee. She was really upset, but not that hurt. I sat her on my bike, telling her to hold onto my shoulder, while I walked two bikes and a bruised kid back to the car. She cried for the first quarter mile, but then I made some comment about a raccoon verbally harassing me on the trail and she started to laugh. When we got home Cheryl cleaned out the wound and she was okay to go. At our gate in Newark Airport, Zoe met a 6 year old girl named Alysa who was also going to Italy on the same flight. The two of them played for a bit until Zoe...
