Beach Holiday

This past weekend Cheryl and I both took off Monday to have a last minute trip to the shore. The weather wasn't supposed to be all that great, but it turned out to be a lovely weekend. First, we went down to the center of town to hang out on the giant stone turtle and check out the playground.

On the walk home, she was kind of silly, but was willing to give me a nice, big kiss any way.

The next morning, because of my insistence, we rented a surrey. Well, technically, Cheryl rented it and drove it to us, but then the three of us took it for a ride up and down the boardwalk. It's actually a good thing that you can only rent them for an hour.

After the surrey was returned, and Zoe took her nap, Harlie showed up. She was kind enough to bring her parents along. We spent some time at the beach, and Cheryl, Zoe and I went up to Ocean City to pop into a few of the photobooths there. On Sunday, we all drove down to Wildwood to hang out on the boardwalk and go on some rides. Here are some of the highlights.

After that, we hung out in the house for a bit. The cousins seemed to enjoying each others' company. Zoe even gave Harlie a nice big hug. In the pictures it looks like she's trying to choke her out, but I swear to you, it was very sweet.

In order to beat the traffic, Joe, Riley and Harlie left on Sunday night. Monday morning, while Cheryl was cleaning, Zoe and I went out for one last trip to the playground. She didn't seem very enthused, probably because it was so muggy out. We walked home down the boardwalk and just before we left, we popped into Uncle Mike's Arcade. Zoe tried out skee ball for the first time. She needs a little more practice, but with an old pro like her mom, I'm sure she'll be getting more tickets than her father in no time.

So that was our trip. It only took us 2 and a half hours to get home on Monday, which wasn't as bad as it could have been. There are a number of other pictures in both Harlie's and Zoe's sets on Flickr, so be sure to take a look.

Paris - Day Five: Louvre, More Gardens, Photobooths, Macaroons, Love

Today was scheduled to be a somewhat random day. We didn't have anything specific we were planning to do, meaning no pre-purchased tickets, but a number of stops to make and things to see. The first stop on our list for the day was a photobooth that was out near Moulin Rouge. It was in a giant, open gallery space where there were people dancing and vendors selling food. We found the booth and took a few pictures. Right near the booth there was an old trailer of some sort that was converted in to a little library. Since Zoe loves books, even if they're in a language she doesn't read, she went in and browsed the selection. She then said she'd like one of these for our house back home. We'll see what we can do. She didn't actually take the book with us, but she wanted to pose with it. At this point it was time to get something to eat, so we hopped on the Metro and took it to Cafe des 2 Moulins, the restaurant from the movie Amelie. The food was great, the...

Girls Night Out Dance

Zoe has her first dance at school, the Girls Night Out Dance, where she brought me as her date. It had been quite some time since I was at such a formal affair, but thankfully I was still able to squeeze in to my suit. Zoe looked as gorgeous as her mother with her fancy clothes, her makeup, and the big bow in her hair. We took a few pictures before we left for the dance, just to capture the moment. I drove us over to the school, and we arrived right on time, beating the crowd. A few of Zoe's friends were there, and before they turned the lights off, I took one, not-so-good, picture. It is nice to know that, as time goes by, some things never change. There was very little dancing for the two of us at the dance. She was very interested in the snacks (treats), the lights that were on the tables, but mostly in the pull up bar at the back of the gym. She spent a solid 15 minutes moving around gym mats so she could stand on them and hang from the bar. Other kids came and went,...

Paris - Day One: Airline Trouble, Eiffel Tower, Metro

We woke up Monday morning to find out that our flight from Newark to Paris had been cancelled, but we were rebooked to fly out the next day on the same flight. Cheryl worked her magic and we transferred to a new flight out of JFK, through London, to Paris with a minimal delay in the timing. With that out of the way, we packed in to the car, made it to JFK and waited for our plane to take off. Fortunately there was plenty of entertainment in the airport, and some sleep on the plane. Unfortunately, when we finally got to Paris, Zoe's bag was missing. Apparently it didn't make the connection. She took the news fairly well. The airline personnel assured us that the bag was on its way and would be delivered to us by 2, 3 at the latest. With that we hopped in a cab to our apartment, which was located in the 10th Arrondissement of Paris. Since it was now Tuesday, thanks to the time change and length of the flight, we wanted to make the most of it, so we set out for the Eiffel...
