Birthday in Florida

Cheryl and I took a week off to take Zoe down to Florida to visit Nana and Poppy for her birthday. We flew in to Orlando on Wednesday and spent two days in Disney World. I'm not sure that Zoe noticed where we were, but she had a good time. The place we stayed had two bedrooms and a small kitchen.

The first day we went to the Magic Kingdom. It was probably a bit too cold to wear shorts, but I was just super happy that it wasn't snowing and the temperature was in double digits. Zoe's favorite things were the random ducks, the ropes that guided folks through the lines and throwing mommy's money in to the fountain. And, just like the Mummer's parade the year before, she fell asleep during the Magic Kingdom parade.

On the second day we went to the Animal Kingdom park, which was probably a mistake. There was a musical version of Finding Nemo, which Zoe actually made it all the way through. Then there were some animals and a parade, which Zoe also fell asleep during.

Once we got back to Nana and Poppy's house, it was time to celebrate Zoe's birthday. There was an excellent Sesame Street cake and again Zoe was great about blowing out her candles.

After her cake, Zoe got one of her favorite gifts. A brand new tricycle. You can see how happy she is to ride it around.

The rest of the week we went to a number of different playgrounds and parks in the area as well as the Tampa Aquarium.

It was a great trip, but we made a miscalculation on the flight home. We both assumed that because we were flying out late, that Zoe would go to sleep and we would just put her in bed when we got home. Well, we didn't get home until around 11:00pm and Zoe was still awake. Now we know better for next time.

Italy - Day 8 - Florence

We only had one full day in Florence, so we wanted to make the most of it. Getting up at a reasonable hour, we made our way down to the market for some breakfast. There were lots of baked goods, a truffle omelette sandwich, and plenty of fruit for Zoe, all of it fresh and delicious. Fueled up and good to go, we made our way to the first stop on our list, Giotto's Bell Tower. On the way we saw some street art, bought Zoe a new hat, and Zoe mailed out one of her first postcards. Arriving in the square, there were hundreds of people packed around the bell tower. No matter how far away I stood, I couldn't get the entire structure in frame, but it was awesome to see up close. We continued our trek south past the carousel towards the bronze boar. People were lined up to take pictures, rub it's snout and drop some money into the fountain for luck. Once our pictures were taken and our luck secured, we made our way through the leather vendors to check out some more bui

A Couple Of Visits

This past weekend the Carusos flew home on Friday. John and Annabelle took a later flight and actually spent Friday evening with us here at casa de Shelreno. It wasn't a long stay, but it is always nice to see my goddaughter. Her and Zoe had fun playing with the grill and then enjoyed a lovely breakfast together the following morning. You can tell they're good friends by the goofy faces they make together. On Sunday, I packed Zoe up in the car to take a trip up to Langhorne to visit with Mimi and Joe Pop. We went with Mimi to a nearby park. Apart from smacking her head right into the side of a picnic table, she learned to drive some cars. She already seems to have a little road rage. After that we went back to the house to ice her head... er... I mean, so she could take a nap. She was super tired, but when she woke up she was full of energy. Joe Pop was home and he showed her around the animals in his room, including the dogs. I think she was a little excited to see

Italy - Day 6 - Rome

Since this was our last full day in Rome, we decided to head towards Vatican City. After crossing a bridge, we made our way down the steps to follow the Tiber because Zoe wanted to explore closer to the water. Approaching the Vatican, we stopped just out of smoting range, for Cheryl's protection, before deciding that the view from the gates would suffice. From there we decided we would head out to try some very highly recommended pizza from Bonci. Zoe had to make a stop along the way for some gelato and a bathroom break, which was great because it took an hour to get our food. That being said, it was totally worth the wait! The pizza was amazing and the deep fried pasta balls were bizarre and delicious. While Cheryl was waiting, Zoe and I bought from fresh fruit and vegetables so that she would have something to eat. After a late lunch, we decided to make our way home. As we were about to cross the river, we passed Castle San Angelo and decided to make a stop. Thi
