Goodbye Arno, Hello Orange

There's no getting around it, Zoe is growing up. As she does it is great to see her getting bigger and smarter; however, at the same time, it is sad to see some of the things I have come to know and love go away. Just the other day I asked her what color Rody is, and instead of answering arno she said orange. While that may not seem like a big thing, it was. I'm still thinking about it days later.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad she's growing up and I know she'd never get a call back from an interview if she was still saying arno instead of orange, but that doesn't mean I don't miss it. Thankfully she has started referring to both my computer and Cheryl's iPad by name. That is, when she tries to say computer, she actually says puh-que-kee.

There are plenty of other things she says properly, but they are just funny to hear her say. Some examples are:

  • After telling her you have a boo boo, she will walk over to you, kiss the boo boo, then look up at you and ask, "Is that all better?"
  • If you ask her what her name is, she says Zoe Shelmet, but she does so in sort of a monster/death metal voice.
  • There have been a few occasions where she has said, "I think so," but she says it as if it is a question.
  • She has seen a few movies, but those movies she has watched a ton of times. At this point, she has begun narrating to me what is happening in them.
I'm sure there will lots more things that I love that will go away. I'll just do my best to enjoy them while they're around and not forget them once they're gone.

Election Day

When Zoe was born, Barack Obama was the president. Today the country is voting to determine who will be president for the next four years. It will still be a long time before Zoe gets to cast her own vote, but when Cheryl got home today, the two of them went around the corner to our voting center and did their civic duty. Cheryl took a couple of pictures. The girls are asleep now, and the race is still too close to call, but I assume when we get up tomorrow (hopefully not in the middle of the night) we'll know who who won. I hope everyone got out to vote today! As you can see by her sticker, Zoe did.

Riding Together for the First Time

Today my bike was finally fixed, so I picked it up from the shop before picking Zoe up from Science Club. When she saw my bike she was very excited to go for a ride. It was overcast all day, but the weather held out and it was a beautiful evening, so we rushed home, she finished all her homework, and I loaded her bike onto the car. I packed a bag with some water and a couple snacks and we made our way to Lorimer Park. Before we took off down the trail, I wanted to take a selfie, but I was so excited that I forgot my helmet, so there are two selfies. As soon as I finished the picture she took off down the path. Fortunately I was able to catch up, phone in hand, to take a few pictures as we cruised down the trail. I am a mostly competent bike rider, but trying to pay attention to her, and the trail, and keep myself upright while holding my phone was tricky. So, I decided to take some video where, for the most part, I could rest my hand on the handlebars. She is so good a...

Visit from Nana and Poppy

To make sure she didn't forget about her parent's birthday's, Cheryl gave them their presents on the day of the baby shower. For her father, she got a nice webcam so that we could Skype with them to interact with Zoe. A few weeks ago we had done that for the first time and it actually worked out really well. So on Monday, April 2nd, Cheryl's parents came up from Florida to meet Zoe face to face for the first time. On one day Cheryl and Zoe went to Clark Park with Nana and Poppy. Later in the week Cheryl's sister Debbie came by with her daughters, Zoe's cousins, Ashlee and Taylor. Just before they left, Cheryl remembered to take a picture. Here's Zoe with her cousin Taylor. As always, you can find all of these pictures and more in Zoe's Set on Flickr.
