Dinosaurs and Snowmen

This weekend there was a lot more snowfall than we were anticipating. This, in turn, kept us snowbound on Saturday afternoon when we had planned to head out across the river for some photoboothing and shopping.

Making sure that the weather didn't keep us trapped all day Sunday, we decided to hop on a trolley early and ride it down to 19th Street to visit the Academy of Natural Sciences. I had taken Zoe there earlier in the month and she really enjoyed the Outside In play space they have where kids can pet animals and interact with different environments. Here are a couple of pictures from that day.

This time, like the last, wasn't much different. The main attraction for Zoe was Outside In, although she does enjoy seeing the butterflies and looking at all of the animals in their dioramas.I can't help but think that she finds it weird that the animals are all behind glass, she she's able to actually pet them at Mimi and Joe Pop's house. Even though she wasn't the biggest fan, she also walked among the dinosaur bones as well.

On the walk home from the trolley, we ran in to a snowman that someone had made right on the sidewalk. Being inspired by this, after her nap, Zoe and I went in to the backyard and made a snowman of our own. She is still terrible at posing for a picture, at least when you really want her to, but she is pretty great at putting together a snowman. The pine needle hair and heart were all her idea.

It was a lot of fun to put the snowman together, but I think I speak for all three of us when I say, we're done with winter. The warmer weather can't come soon enough.

Italy - Day 8 - Florence

We only had one full day in Florence, so we wanted to make the most of it. Getting up at a reasonable hour, we made our way down to the market for some breakfast. There were lots of baked goods, a truffle omelette sandwich, and plenty of fruit for Zoe, all of it fresh and delicious. Fueled up and good to go, we made our way to the first stop on our list, Giotto's Bell Tower. On the way we saw some street art, bought Zoe a new hat, and Zoe mailed out one of her first postcards. Arriving in the square, there were hundreds of people packed around the bell tower. No matter how far away I stood, I couldn't get the entire structure in frame, but it was awesome to see up close. We continued our trek south past the carousel towards the bronze boar. People were lined up to take pictures, rub it's snout and drop some money into the fountain for luck. Once our pictures were taken and our luck secured, we made our way through the leather vendors to check out some more bui

A Couple Of Visits

This past weekend the Carusos flew home on Friday. John and Annabelle took a later flight and actually spent Friday evening with us here at casa de Shelreno. It wasn't a long stay, but it is always nice to see my goddaughter. Her and Zoe had fun playing with the grill and then enjoyed a lovely breakfast together the following morning. You can tell they're good friends by the goofy faces they make together. On Sunday, I packed Zoe up in the car to take a trip up to Langhorne to visit with Mimi and Joe Pop. We went with Mimi to a nearby park. Apart from smacking her head right into the side of a picnic table, she learned to drive some cars. She already seems to have a little road rage. After that we went back to the house to ice her head... er... I mean, so she could take a nap. She was super tired, but when she woke up she was full of energy. Joe Pop was home and he showed her around the animals in his room, including the dogs. I think she was a little excited to see

Italy - Day 6 - Rome

Since this was our last full day in Rome, we decided to head towards Vatican City. After crossing a bridge, we made our way down the steps to follow the Tiber because Zoe wanted to explore closer to the water. Approaching the Vatican, we stopped just out of smoting range, for Cheryl's protection, before deciding that the view from the gates would suffice. From there we decided we would head out to try some very highly recommended pizza from Bonci. Zoe had to make a stop along the way for some gelato and a bathroom break, which was great because it took an hour to get our food. That being said, it was totally worth the wait! The pizza was amazing and the deep fried pasta balls were bizarre and delicious. While Cheryl was waiting, Zoe and I bought from fresh fruit and vegetables so that she would have something to eat. After a late lunch, we decided to make our way home. As we were about to cross the river, we passed Castle San Angelo and decided to make a stop. Thi
