We woke up Monday morning to find out that our flight from Newark to Paris had been cancelled, but we were rebooked to fly out the next day on the same flight. Cheryl worked her magic and we transferred to a new flight out of JFK, through London, to Paris with a minimal delay in the timing. With that out of the way, we packed in to the car, made it to JFK and waited for our plane to take off. Fortunately there was plenty of entertainment in the airport, and some sleep on the plane.
Unfortunately, when we finally got to Paris, Zoe's bag was missing. Apparently it didn't make the connection. She took the news fairly well.
The airline personnel assured us that the bag was on its way and would be delivered to us by 2, 3 at the latest. With that we hopped in a cab to our apartment, which was located in the 10th Arrondissement of Paris. Since it was now Tuesday, thanks to the time change and length of the flight, we wanted to make the most of it, so we set out for the Eiffel Tower, with a quick stop at the neighborhood McDonald's.
Those Supergirl binoculars came with us everywhere after that. It was a quick hop down the stairs to buy our Metro tickets and take our first ride to Trocadero. When we got off the Metro, we paused for a quick selfie, a few glamour shots of Zoe, and she got behind the camera to take a lovely photo of Cheryl and me.
Making our way towards the tower, there was plenty of time to dip our feet in to the fountain, even though some of us didn't really want to, a couple of carousels, and a quick shoulder ride around all the security barricades.
We purchased our tickets to head all the way to the top of the tower, but stopped off on the second level to use the telescope, get a souvenir coin, and take a few more pictures.
Zoe wasn't super excited to go all the way to the top, nor would she get close to the sides, but she was brave enough to ride the elevator up with us. I'm pretty sure the jet lag was kicking in at that point. So we went back down to the ground floor and took the Metro back home. Once we got there, Zoe chilled out in her new favorite chair while watching some dramatic French television before going to bed.
And that was the first day in Paris. You can see all of the pictures from the first day on Flickr, with lots more to come.
