Riding in 3, 2, 1, GO!

On Sunday Zoe asked if we could go to the park so she could try to ride her bike. The catch was, she wanted to take off her training wheels and ride all by herself. We packed up her bike, her helmet, and a wrench and drove down the street to the park. I took off her training wheels, she put on her helmet, and we were off. Here are some pictures of the first outing.

And here's a little montage of the video that was taken for the first day.

Overall she did really well that first day. On Monday she was excited to get back and try some more, so Zoe and I went back to the park. Since it was only the two of us, there weren't as many pictures taken, but she did pose on her bike for me, in full pads.

And before we left, she wanted desperately to try and ride all by herself. When she did that, I was able to take some video.

Today, after we ate dinner, we went back to the park to try riding some more. We walked down to the spot where we were riding the other days and I started to hold her up when she said, "I want to try it myself," and then proceeded to ride for about 20 feet all on her own. She stopped and I realized that she doesn't need my help any more, so I took some video of her riding around.

I was also able to take a few pictures, as well.

So, in less than 2 hours over 3 days Zoe can now ride a bike. Of course, she'll probably continue to wear all of her pads, which is for the best, but she's good to go. Now I need to fix up my bike and we need to get Cheryl a bike so we can all ride together. You can see a bunch of other pictures in the Flickr album, too.

Of course, when we got home, Zoe had be blow up her 6' 6" unicorn sprinkler, but that's a whole other story.

We'll revisit that once it gets warmer.

Paris - Day Five: Louvre, More Gardens, Photobooths, Macaroons, Love

Today was scheduled to be a somewhat random day. We didn't have anything specific we were planning to do, meaning no pre-purchased tickets, but a number of stops to make and things to see. The first stop on our list for the day was a photobooth that was out near Moulin Rouge. It was in a giant, open gallery space where there were people dancing and vendors selling food. We found the booth and took a few pictures. Right near the booth there was an old trailer of some sort that was converted in to a little library. Since Zoe loves books, even if they're in a language she doesn't read, she went in and browsed the selection. She then said she'd like one of these for our house back home. We'll see what we can do. She didn't actually take the book with us, but she wanted to pose with it. At this point it was time to get something to eat, so we hopped on the Metro and took it to Cafe des 2 Moulins, the restaurant from the movie Amelie. The food was great, the...

Girls Night Out Dance

Zoe has her first dance at school, the Girls Night Out Dance, where she brought me as her date. It had been quite some time since I was at such a formal affair, but thankfully I was still able to squeeze in to my suit. Zoe looked as gorgeous as her mother with her fancy clothes, her makeup, and the big bow in her hair. We took a few pictures before we left for the dance, just to capture the moment. I drove us over to the school, and we arrived right on time, beating the crowd. A few of Zoe's friends were there, and before they turned the lights off, I took one, not-so-good, picture. It is nice to know that, as time goes by, some things never change. There was very little dancing for the two of us at the dance. She was very interested in the snacks (treats), the lights that were on the tables, but mostly in the pull up bar at the back of the gym. She spent a solid 15 minutes moving around gym mats so she could stand on them and hang from the bar. Other kids came and went,...

Paris - Day One: Airline Trouble, Eiffel Tower, Metro

We woke up Monday morning to find out that our flight from Newark to Paris had been cancelled, but we were rebooked to fly out the next day on the same flight. Cheryl worked her magic and we transferred to a new flight out of JFK, through London, to Paris with a minimal delay in the timing. With that out of the way, we packed in to the car, made it to JFK and waited for our plane to take off. Fortunately there was plenty of entertainment in the airport, and some sleep on the plane. Unfortunately, when we finally got to Paris, Zoe's bag was missing. Apparently it didn't make the connection. She took the news fairly well. The airline personnel assured us that the bag was on its way and would be delivered to us by 2, 3 at the latest. With that we hopped in a cab to our apartment, which was located in the 10th Arrondissement of Paris. Since it was now Tuesday, thanks to the time change and length of the flight, we wanted to make the most of it, so we set out for the Eiffel...
