Climbing the Mountain

Every day it becomes more and more obvious to me that Zoe is most likely part spider monkey. She climbs all over the place including, but not limited to, the couch, the bench, playground slides and "the mountain." What is the mountain you ask? Well, the mountain is created by removing both cushions from the back of the couch, stacking them on top of one another and then draping a gym mat over them. This creates and relatively safe indoor slide, which Zoe loves. Just take a look.

Something else Zoe has recently discovered is that her tongue does not need to be confined to the inside of her mouth. She had her tongue hanging out of her face for a good long while today and these pictures help to illustrate that fact.

This behavior was not limited to inside the house. When we got to the playground in the afternoon, she was up to the same thing again. Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe she's using it like a snake to sense changes in the weather? Or maybe she thinks it makes her look like Michael Jordan? Regardless, she's super cute.

Honestly, there are more of these, but you'll have to go to Zoe's set on Flickr to see them because I'm not putting any more here; however, I will share a few other pictures. Today we assembled the water table and tested it out on the porch. It wasn't too cold out, but even if it was, I'm sure it wouldn't have stopped Zoe from all her splashing. She's going to love this thing once the weather is warmer.

So that was our Saturday. Hopefully you've enjoyed seeing the pictures from the day as much as we enjoyed taking them.

Election Day

When Zoe was born, Barack Obama was the president. Today the country is voting to determine who will be president for the next four years. It will still be a long time before Zoe gets to cast her own vote, but when Cheryl got home today, the two of them went around the corner to our voting center and did their civic duty. Cheryl took a couple of pictures. The girls are asleep now, and the race is still too close to call, but I assume when we get up tomorrow (hopefully not in the middle of the night) we'll know who who won. I hope everyone got out to vote today! As you can see by her sticker, Zoe did.

Italy - Day 6 - Rome

Since this was our last full day in Rome, we decided to head towards Vatican City. After crossing a bridge, we made our way down the steps to follow the Tiber because Zoe wanted to explore closer to the water. Approaching the Vatican, we stopped just out of smoting range, for Cheryl's protection, before deciding that the view from the gates would suffice. From there we decided we would head out to try some very highly recommended pizza from Bonci. Zoe had to make a stop along the way for some gelato and a bathroom break, which was great because it took an hour to get our food. That being said, it was totally worth the wait! The pizza was amazing and the deep fried pasta balls were bizarre and delicious. While Cheryl was waiting, Zoe and I bought from fresh fruit and vegetables so that she would have something to eat. After a late lunch, we decided to make our way home. As we were about to cross the river, we passed Castle San Angelo and decided to make a stop. Thi...

Italy - Day 2 - Rome

Waking up in Rome to the sound of industrial work, we decided that today we would focus on Villa Borghese and all it has to offer, primarily a row boat rental. On the way there we passed by Piazza del Popolo where we took a few pictures. Zoe grabbed a phone and snapped a few for us, too! Once in the park we made a beeline for the boat rental. Along that line there were fountains and flowers we had never seen before, so we stopped for a quick look. My favorite is Zoe taking her own selfies. She makes such wonderful faces. Making our way through all of the distractions, we found the lake that surrounds the Temple of Asclepius and rented a boat. We all hopped in and I rowed us out into the water, but it wasn't long before Zoe insisted that she could paddle the boat, so we swapped spots and the cutest boat captain took over. Now this is very important because if you ask Zoe or Cheryl they're going to tell you a completely different story. At one point in our ...
