Happy New Year 2015

This year we were on board for the Mummer's Parade. We missed last year's parade, so we were super excited to take part in it this year. With the theme of our troop being the Phunbearable Phlightness of Being, which pretty much meant all things that fly, we decided that our costumes would be dragons. Cheryl put in a ton of work to get our costumes started and we both worked to add the detail to finish them off. Overall, I say the three of us looked pretty damn good.

Sweatsuits from Walmart never looked so good. Thankfully they were really warm because not only was it cold on New Year's Day, but it was really windy too. Also, after we arrived, we didn't start marching for hours. Luckily there was a building where the folks manning the lobby were happy to let us stay inside and keep warm.

While we were waiting for the parade to get started, Zoe was busy making friends. She found two girls in our troupe who were dressed as flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz and was soon following them everywhere. They were nice enough to take some pictures with her, even though all she did was blow raspberries at them every time she got close.

One of the details that I added to Zoe's costume was a pacifier with some flames shooting out of it. Knowing that she wouldn't be able to go very long without having one in her mouth, it seemed like a good idea to have her be a fire breathing dragon. Even though she incorrectly referred to it as her rocket ship paci, she still looked super cute with it, even when she was about to fall asleep on mommy.

We all had fun and I think it is safe to say that Cheryl and I were just super excited that she actually wore her costume for as long as she did and didn't ask to take it off or anything. She was really good and I'm looking forward to doing even more costumed events with her in the future. As always, don't forget to check out the Mummers 2015 set on Flickr to see all of these, and even more, pictures.

Italy - Day 8 - Florence

We only had one full day in Florence, so we wanted to make the most of it. Getting up at a reasonable hour, we made our way down to the market for some breakfast. There were lots of baked goods, a truffle omelette sandwich, and plenty of fruit for Zoe, all of it fresh and delicious. Fueled up and good to go, we made our way to the first stop on our list, Giotto's Bell Tower. On the way we saw some street art, bought Zoe a new hat, and Zoe mailed out one of her first postcards. Arriving in the square, there were hundreds of people packed around the bell tower. No matter how far away I stood, I couldn't get the entire structure in frame, but it was awesome to see up close. We continued our trek south past the carousel towards the bronze boar. People were lined up to take pictures, rub it's snout and drop some money into the fountain for luck. Once our pictures were taken and our luck secured, we made our way through the leather vendors to check out some more bui

A Couple Of Visits

This past weekend the Carusos flew home on Friday. John and Annabelle took a later flight and actually spent Friday evening with us here at casa de Shelreno. It wasn't a long stay, but it is always nice to see my goddaughter. Her and Zoe had fun playing with the grill and then enjoyed a lovely breakfast together the following morning. You can tell they're good friends by the goofy faces they make together. On Sunday, I packed Zoe up in the car to take a trip up to Langhorne to visit with Mimi and Joe Pop. We went with Mimi to a nearby park. Apart from smacking her head right into the side of a picnic table, she learned to drive some cars. She already seems to have a little road rage. After that we went back to the house to ice her head... er... I mean, so she could take a nap. She was super tired, but when she woke up she was full of energy. Joe Pop was home and he showed her around the animals in his room, including the dogs. I think she was a little excited to see

Italy - Day 6 - Rome

Since this was our last full day in Rome, we decided to head towards Vatican City. After crossing a bridge, we made our way down the steps to follow the Tiber because Zoe wanted to explore closer to the water. Approaching the Vatican, we stopped just out of smoting range, for Cheryl's protection, before deciding that the view from the gates would suffice. From there we decided we would head out to try some very highly recommended pizza from Bonci. Zoe had to make a stop along the way for some gelato and a bathroom break, which was great because it took an hour to get our food. That being said, it was totally worth the wait! The pizza was amazing and the deep fried pasta balls were bizarre and delicious. While Cheryl was waiting, Zoe and I bought from fresh fruit and vegetables so that she would have something to eat. After a late lunch, we decided to make our way home. As we were about to cross the river, we passed Castle San Angelo and decided to make a stop. Thi
