We're Off To See The Lizard

About a week ago I ordered a copy of The Wizard of Oz on DVD. After the Mummer's Parade where Zoe made two great new friends out of the flying monkeys, I thought it would be a good idea to show here where they came from. She patiently sat through the whole thing and enjoyed the music and the characters. In the few days we've owned the movies, she's probably watched it over a dozen times.

Around the third or fourth watching we had a conversation about how to pronounce the title of the movie. The back and forth went something like this:

Zoe: We're watching the Lizard of Oz.
Me: No sweetheart, it's a W. It's the Wizard of Oz.
Zoe: No. The Lizard of Oz.
Me: It's a W peanut. Wa-Wa-Wa-Wizard of Oz.
Zoe: Wa-Wa-Wa-Lizard of Oz.
Me: *shakes his head*

She has gotten in to this habit, when she's feeling silly, to call things by there wrong name. After I pick her up and we're waiting for Cheryl to get out of the office, she'll say as every stranger walks by, "There's mommy!" to which I am obligated to reply, "That's not mommy!" at which point she is obligated to do her big, fake laugh.

She's grown in to quite a pickle from the peach she started out as and if this is any indication, I'm in for a whole world of trouble as time goes on. I can't wait!

Election Day

When Zoe was born, Barack Obama was the president. Today the country is voting to determine who will be president for the next four years. It will still be a long time before Zoe gets to cast her own vote, but when Cheryl got home today, the two of them went around the corner to our voting center and did their civic duty. Cheryl took a couple of pictures. The girls are asleep now, and the race is still too close to call, but I assume when we get up tomorrow (hopefully not in the middle of the night) we'll know who who won. I hope everyone got out to vote today! As you can see by her sticker, Zoe did.

Meet the Flintstones?!?

Cheryl wanted me to share the following with everyone. These are her words, not mine. Frankly, I know I'm the lucky one. So obviously the blog is Michael's thing, which is great really because if it were up to me it would have started and ended with 99 days left! But I wanted to make a post so I could thank Michael for everything he has done for me throughout this pregnancy and most of all during delivery. There is no question that being with Michael is the smartest thing I've ever done and Zoe is lucky to call him Dad. The reason we had a planned c-section was that Zoe was 'unstable lie'. In the 4 weeks before she was due she was breech, head down, breech, and then head down again. As it was explained to us, this is pretty rare. They expected that even if she was in the right position when I went into labor, she would turn during contractions creating a dangerous situation for all of us. The day of surgery I was still pretty calm. Once I was prepp...

Riding Together for the First Time

Today my bike was finally fixed, so I picked it up from the shop before picking Zoe up from Science Club. When she saw my bike she was very excited to go for a ride. It was overcast all day, but the weather held out and it was a beautiful evening, so we rushed home, she finished all her homework, and I loaded her bike onto the car. I packed a bag with some water and a couple snacks and we made our way to Lorimer Park. Before we took off down the trail, I wanted to take a selfie, but I was so excited that I forgot my helmet, so there are two selfies. As soon as I finished the picture she took off down the path. Fortunately I was able to catch up, phone in hand, to take a few pictures as we cruised down the trail. I am a mostly competent bike rider, but trying to pay attention to her, and the trail, and keep myself upright while holding my phone was tricky. So, I decided to take some video where, for the most part, I could rest my hand on the handlebars. She is so good a...
