Today my bike was finally fixed, so I picked it up from the shop before picking Zoe up from Science Club. When she saw my bike she was very excited to go for a ride. It was overcast all day, but the weather held out and it was a beautiful evening, so we rushed home, she finished all her homework, and I loaded her bike onto the car. I packed a bag with some water and a couple snacks and we made our way to Lorimer Park. Before we took off down the trail, I wanted to take a selfie, but I was so excited that I forgot my helmet, so there are two selfies.
As soon as I finished the picture she took off down the path. Fortunately I was able to catch up, phone in hand, to take a few pictures as we cruised down the trail.
I am a mostly competent bike rider, but trying to pay attention to her, and the trail, and keep myself upright while holding my phone was tricky. So, I decided to take some video where, for the most part, I could rest my hand on the handlebars.
She is so good at controlling the bike! Which is funny because at one point we stopped and she had a terrible time trying to get going again. At another point one of the park rangers rode along side us on his bike asking if we had been at the park recently. I explained that a couple of weeks ago Zoe learned to ride, and the ranger said that his daughter was so inspired that she started to learn to ride, too.
When we were almost back to the car, she asked to stop for a snack and devoured a miniature Cliff bar. While her mouth was still full I asked her if she enjoyed it and she gave me some goofy thumbs ups.
Overall it was a nice 2 mile round trip up and down the trail. I imagine I will be struggling to keep up with her for many years to come. The Flickr album has even more pictures from this trip, and will most likely have even more very soon.
