Life Imitates Art Imitates Life

Our little artist really likes to draw. Her favorite thing to draw, by far, is a rainbow. This usually involves little blocks of color all of the page that are very bright and full. They're probably some of my favorite pieces as well. However, Zoe is capable of doing lots of different art with a range of mediums. Here is a sample of some of those.

And here is the artist proudly showing off one of her pieces.

When Zoe is drawing I like to join in to show her that old folks like art too. One of my go to drawings at this time is to make little caricatures of each of us, put angry eyebrows on them with a pouty face. This seems to entertain Zoe immensely. She even posed with my rendition of her and made the appropriate face.

If you have never seen Zoe make this face, then you probably haven't seen her much since she turned 2. You can see all of this artwork, and more, in the Artwork album on Flickr.

Meet the Flintstones?!?

Cheryl wanted me to share the following with everyone. These are her words, not mine. Frankly, I know I'm the lucky one. So obviously the blog is Michael's thing, which is great really because if it were up to me it would have started and ended with 99 days left! But I wanted to make a post so I could thank Michael for everything he has done for me throughout this pregnancy and most of all during delivery. There is no question that being with Michael is the smartest thing I've ever done and Zoe is lucky to call him Dad. The reason we had a planned c-section was that Zoe was 'unstable lie'. In the 4 weeks before she was due she was breech, head down, breech, and then head down again. As it was explained to us, this is pretty rare. They expected that even if she was in the right position when I went into labor, she would turn during contractions creating a dangerous situation for all of us. The day of surgery I was still pretty calm. Once I was prepp...

She Poops Because She Cares

One week ago today, Zoe was born. She seems to have adjusted to life in West Philly fairly well. Her pink blanket is one of her favorites to snuggle up with; however, we did learn that much like her father, she hates to bathe. So her first appointment with the peditrician was Wednesday at 11:00am. She seemed to enjoy her ride in the car again, and by that I mean she was passed out the whole way there. The doctor said she was looking good. The jaundice that she had in the hospital is no longer a concern now that she's eating and going to the bathroom regularly. Also, she's working her way back up to her birth weight. After being born at 8lbs 8ozs, she dropped down to 7lbs 13ozs when she was discharged from the hospital. At her appointment she weighed in at 8lbs 3ozs. Later in the day while I was out shopping for essentials (and comic books) Zoe was getting fussy with her mother. We're not entirely sure what the issue was, but we did find out that she loves her swing....

Italy - Day 1 - Getting to Rome

Our flight to Rome was scheduled for 11:00pm on Sunday, May 26th. Since that gave us a lot of time before we had to leave, Zoe and I went to Lorimer Park for a bike ride. We rode the Pennypack Trail all the way from Moredon Road to Welsh Road, which is about 1.7 miles. When we got to the end we turned around to head home. After about 100 feet Zoe's front wheel turned 90 degrees, her bike feel to the left, and she skidded to a stop on her hands and knee. She was really upset, but not that hurt. I sat her on my bike, telling her to hold onto my shoulder, while I walked two bikes and a bruised kid back to the car. She cried for the first quarter mile, but then I made some comment about a raccoon verbally harassing me on the trail and she started to laugh. When we got home Cheryl cleaned out the wound and she was okay to go. At our gate in Newark Airport, Zoe met a 6 year old girl named Alysa who was also going to Italy on the same flight. The two of them played for a bit until Zoe...
