Baby's First Brains

Bright and early this morning the whole family woke up to take part in the Philadelphia 5K Zombie Run. No, we didn't register as runners. We're a zombie family. This was Zoe's first time dressing up as a member of the undead and she really turned heads. I guess most parents don't take their one year old to something called the Zombie Run, but Cheryl and I never claimed to be most parents. We only stayed through the first wave of runners, but we did manage to get some good pictures.



It was definitely a fun time and I'm looking forward to participating again next year. Later today the weather was gorgeous, so we packed up Zoe's dinner and went to Clark Park. Zoe loves the playground. Her favorite thing to do is pick up every errant stick and hand it over to either Cheryl or me. We're grateful for this, since it means she's not eating the stuff. I was able to take a couple of shots of here near the dinosaur slide.



It's pretty amazing how Zoe has translated her knowledge of getting down from the couch to going down the slide on her belly. She just crawls right up to it, drops, spins and slides. As always, Zoe's set on Flickr has all of these pictures and more.

Election Day

When Zoe was born, Barack Obama was the president. Today the country is voting to determine who will be president for the next four years. It will still be a long time before Zoe gets to cast her own vote, but when Cheryl got home today, the two of them went around the corner to our voting center and did their civic duty. Cheryl took a couple of pictures. The girls are asleep now, and the race is still too close to call, but I assume when we get up tomorrow (hopefully not in the middle of the night) we'll know who who won. Italy - Day 6 - Rome

Since this was our last full day in Rome, we decided to head towards Vatican City. After crossing a bridge, we made our way down the steps to follow the Tiber because Zoe wanted to explore closer to the water. Approaching the Vatican, we stopped just out of smoting range, for Cheryl's protection, before deciding that the view from the gates would suffice. From there we decided we would head out to try some very highly recommended pizza from Bonci. Zoe had to make a stop along the way for some gelato and a bathroom break, which was great because it took an hour to get our food. That being said, it was totally worth the wait! The pizza was amazing and the deep fried pasta balls were bizarre and delicious. While Cheryl was waiting, Zoe and I bought from fresh fruit and vegetables so that she would have something to eat. Italy - Day 2 - Rome

Waking up in Rome to the sound of industrial work, we decided that today we would focus on Villa Borghese and all it has to offer, primarily a row boat rental. On the way there we passed by Piazza del Popolo where we took a few pictures. Zoe grabbed a phone and snapped a few for us, too! Once in the park we made a beeline for the boat rental. Along that line there were fountains and flowers we had never seen before, so we stopped for a quick look. My favorite is Zoe taking her own selfies. She makes such wonderful faces. Making our way through all of the distractions, we found the lake that surrounds the Temple of Asclepius and rented a boat. We all hopped in and I rowed us out into the water, but it wasn't long before Zoe insisted that she could paddle the boat, so we swapped spots and the cutest boat captain took over.
