Fall Festival and Halloween

Zoe's daycare had a Fall Festival today during the morning. There were treats, like cookies, pretzels and cider, as well as lots of things to do, like make paper crowns, sculpt with playdough and play music on pots and pans. Zoe had a great time swinging and blowing bubbles.

You can see more pictures in the Fall Festival set on Flickr. At 3:00pm I picked Zoe up from school so we could get ready to march in the Halloween parade and do some trick or treating. This year Zoe decided that she was going to be the Little Mermaid, Cheryl would be Ursula and I would be Flounder. I know my costume was the weakest of the three, but together, I think we looked pretty damn amazing.

She did really well with trick or treating. She only got upset once at a really scary mask that she did not like looking at. Other than that, she got a good amount of candy, which she ate a few pieces while we were walking from house to house. Eventually, we got to the block party and she had some ice cream and a brownie, but more importantly, she ran in to a number of friends. The big hit of the night was Isaac, who was aggressively hugged and kissed by a number of girls, but mostly Zoe, yet he played it off like it wasn't a big deal (sorry again about that). They did sit nice for a bit and pose for a few pictures.

Zoe made a few other goofy faces, which you can see in the Halloween set on Flickr. Overall it was a very successful holiday and I can't wait to see what we'll be next year.

Election Day

When Zoe was born, Barack Obama was the president. Today the country is voting to determine who will be president for the next four years. It will still be a long time before Zoe gets to cast her own vote, but when Cheryl got home today, the two of them went around the corner to our voting center and did their civic duty. Cheryl took a couple of pictures. The girls are asleep now, and the race is still too close to call, but I assume when we get up tomorrow (hopefully not in the middle of the night) we'll know who who won. I hope everyone got out to vote today! As you can see by her sticker, Zoe did.

Riding Together for the First Time

Today my bike was finally fixed, so I picked it up from the shop before picking Zoe up from Science Club. When she saw my bike she was very excited to go for a ride. It was overcast all day, but the weather held out and it was a beautiful evening, so we rushed home, she finished all her homework, and I loaded her bike onto the car. I packed a bag with some water and a couple snacks and we made our way to Lorimer Park. Before we took off down the trail, I wanted to take a selfie, but I was so excited that I forgot my helmet, so there are two selfies. As soon as I finished the picture she took off down the path. Fortunately I was able to catch up, phone in hand, to take a few pictures as we cruised down the trail. I am a mostly competent bike rider, but trying to pay attention to her, and the trail, and keep myself upright while holding my phone was tricky. So, I decided to take some video where, for the most part, I could rest my hand on the handlebars. She is so good a...

Italy - Day 2 - Rome

Waking up in Rome to the sound of industrial work, we decided that today we would focus on Villa Borghese and all it has to offer, primarily a row boat rental. On the way there we passed by Piazza del Popolo where we took a few pictures. Zoe grabbed a phone and snapped a few for us, too! Once in the park we made a beeline for the boat rental. Along that line there were fountains and flowers we had never seen before, so we stopped for a quick look. My favorite is Zoe taking her own selfies. She makes such wonderful faces. Making our way through all of the distractions, we found the lake that surrounds the Temple of Asclepius and rented a boat. We all hopped in and I rowed us out into the water, but it wasn't long before Zoe insisted that she could paddle the boat, so we swapped spots and the cutest boat captain took over. Now this is very important because if you ask Zoe or Cheryl they're going to tell you a completely different story. At one point in our ...
