Brooklyn Bridge Park 2018

We made our annual trip up to New York for Mermaid Parade and to celebrate Cheryl's birthday. As is custom, the first stop was to Brooklyn Bridge Park where we took the annual picture of Zoe on my shoulders in front of the buildings.

After that there was a quick wardrobe change and it was on to the spray ground. It was not very warm out, but that didn't stop Zoe from getting in to the water, filling up her bucket, and climbing the slippery rocks.

Once she dried off and changed her outfit we made our way over to the sand and the swings. She likes playing in the sand, but she loves swinging on all of the different swings. It is pretty awesome to see her face while she swings.

When that was done we were quite hungry, so we made our way down along the piers so we could get some pizza. We stopped along the way to enjoy the water and interact with the few geese that were kind enough to tolerate a six year old. This, of course, was followed by a little walking with your helmet covering your face.

After we got to the spot on the grass for our meal, Zoe wanted to do some gymnastics. Her handstands were really good, but every time she landed on her back I would grit my teeth. She's neigh indestructible.

Once the pizza arrived it was time for a few quick family pictures before we sang happy birthday to Cheryl. She got to blow out a tiny mustache candle in a pizza, every girls wish come true.

Shortly after the song was sung and the candle was out, the pizza was devoured. It really didn't stand a chance, especially the crust since that's the only part that Zoe will eat. With our bellies full, it only made sense to take a few final pictures with the mustache candles.

That was the end of the first night. After that we made our way back to the hotel to rest up for the parade. As always, Flickr has a whole lot more pictures if you'd like to take a look.

Election Day

When Zoe was born, Barack Obama was the president. Today the country is voting to determine who will be president for the next four years. It will still be a long time before Zoe gets to cast her own vote, but when Cheryl got home today, the two of them went around the corner to our voting center and did their civic duty. Cheryl took a couple of pictures. The girls are asleep now, and the race is still too close to call, but I assume when we get up tomorrow (hopefully not in the middle of the night) we'll know who who won. I hope everyone got out to vote today! As you can see by her sticker, Zoe did.

Meet the Flintstones?!?

Cheryl wanted me to share the following with everyone. These are her words, not mine. Frankly, I know I'm the lucky one. So obviously the blog is Michael's thing, which is great really because if it were up to me it would have started and ended with 99 days left! But I wanted to make a post so I could thank Michael for everything he has done for me throughout this pregnancy and most of all during delivery. There is no question that being with Michael is the smartest thing I've ever done and Zoe is lucky to call him Dad. The reason we had a planned c-section was that Zoe was 'unstable lie'. In the 4 weeks before she was due she was breech, head down, breech, and then head down again. As it was explained to us, this is pretty rare. They expected that even if she was in the right position when I went into labor, she would turn during contractions creating a dangerous situation for all of us. The day of surgery I was still pretty calm. Once I was prepp...

Riding Together for the First Time

Today my bike was finally fixed, so I picked it up from the shop before picking Zoe up from Science Club. When she saw my bike she was very excited to go for a ride. It was overcast all day, but the weather held out and it was a beautiful evening, so we rushed home, she finished all her homework, and I loaded her bike onto the car. I packed a bag with some water and a couple snacks and we made our way to Lorimer Park. Before we took off down the trail, I wanted to take a selfie, but I was so excited that I forgot my helmet, so there are two selfies. As soon as I finished the picture she took off down the path. Fortunately I was able to catch up, phone in hand, to take a few pictures as we cruised down the trail. I am a mostly competent bike rider, but trying to pay attention to her, and the trail, and keep myself upright while holding my phone was tricky. So, I decided to take some video where, for the most part, I could rest my hand on the handlebars. She is so good a...
