Taylor Mac and Photo Pop Philly

Cheryl was able to get us three tickets to Taylor Mac's A 24-Decade History of Popular Music at the Kimmel Center this Saturday. We did not plan to stay for the entire 12 hour duration of the show, but we wanted to go for as long as Zoe was in to it and then hang out in Center City. We started the night by going to Reading Terminal Market to get some food. Zoe picked out a simple sugar donut, while scoffing at our cream-filled confections.

She truly is the least gluttonous child we know. It is amazing that even her sweet tooth has its limits. After that, it was off to the theater to watch the show. As we made our way in, she was quick to point out to Cheryl that she could see someone's butt, which will happen when you're wearing chaps. She really enjoyed the costumes and signs, and even got to hold one as the show progressed in to the 1860s.

After a while we decided to head out. We made a quick stop by El Vez to pop in to the photobooth. I mean, we were already there, so why not, right? We also went past the Photo Pop Philly exhibit and decided to go in. We took a bunch of pictures while we were there. Here's some of them.

Of all of the rooms and displays, Zoe's favorite was the 99 Red Balloons room. It was difficult to get a good picture in there, but I think he love of the space is fairly clear.

And, just for good measure, here are some more pictures.

It was around this point in the night that someone was getting very grumpy about the fact that we couldn't stay at the fun photo place forever, so we decided to head back to the train station and call it a night. You can see all of the pictures from this pop up on Flickr. You may get to see more, soon, since we had to promise Zoe we would recreate the red balloon room back in our house.

Girls Night Out Dance

Zoe has her first dance at school, the Girls Night Out Dance, where she brought me as her date. It had been quite some time since I was at such a formal affair, but thankfully I was still able to squeeze in to my suit. Zoe looked as gorgeous as her mother with her fancy clothes, her makeup, and the big bow in her hair. We took a few pictures before we left for the dance, just to capture the moment. I drove us over to the school, and we arrived right on time, beating the crowd. A few of Zoe's friends were there, and before they turned the lights off, I took one, not-so-good, picture. It is nice to know that, as time goes by, some things never change. There was very little dancing for the two of us at the dance. She was very interested in the snacks (treats), the lights that were on the tables, but mostly in the pull up bar at the back of the gym. She spent a solid 15 minutes moving around gym mats so she could stand on them and hang from the bar. Other kids came and went,...

Paris - Day Five: Louvre, More Gardens, Photobooths, Macaroons, Love

Today was scheduled to be a somewhat random day. We didn't have anything specific we were planning to do, meaning no pre-purchased tickets, but a number of stops to make and things to see. The first stop on our list for the day was a photobooth that was out near Moulin Rouge. It was in a giant, open gallery space where there were people dancing and vendors selling food. We found the booth and took a few pictures. Right near the booth there was an old trailer of some sort that was converted in to a little library. Since Zoe loves books, even if they're in a language she doesn't read, she went in and browsed the selection. She then said she'd like one of these for our house back home. We'll see what we can do. She didn't actually take the book with us, but she wanted to pose with it. At this point it was time to get something to eat, so we hopped on the Metro and took it to Cafe des 2 Moulins, the restaurant from the movie Amelie. The food was great, the...

Election Day

When Zoe was born, Barack Obama was the president. Today the country is voting to determine who will be president for the next four years. It will still be a long time before Zoe gets to cast her own vote, but when Cheryl got home today, the two of them went around the corner to our voting center and did their civic duty. Cheryl took a couple of pictures. The girls are asleep now, and the race is still too close to call, but I assume when we get up tomorrow (hopefully not in the middle of the night) we'll know who who won. I hope everyone got out to vote today! As you can see by her sticker, Zoe did.
