Harlie's Sixth Birthday Party

For her sixth birthday party, Harlie had a bunch of friends and family meet her at a local shop where they direct the group to paint a picture. Before the art got started, all of the girls were asked on stage to sing a song. The birthday girl got the microphone.

When the song was over, Zoe and I found a basket with some signs they have for other events. These were the most appropriate ones we could find for a sixth birthday.

After that, the painting began. All of the girls were given a canvas that had the outline of the picture they were going to paint. The leader at the front of the room then talked them through all of the different steps to make their painting. Zoe took her artwork very seriously.

When they were all done, the paintings looked amazing. Zoe was proud of her finished product.

Once the painting was finished it was time for food and cake. There were delicious cupcakes with purple icing. I didn't have one, but I did get a chance to sit with Brooklyn while she ate hers. I'm not sure, but I think she liked it.

It was a great party and we have Zoe's artwork hanging in the house for all to see. Happy birthday Harlie!

Meet the Flintstones?!?

Cheryl wanted me to share the following with everyone. These are her words, not mine. Frankly, I know I'm the lucky one. So obviously the blog is Michael's thing, which is great really because if it were up to me it would have started and ended with 99 days left! But I wanted to make a post so I could thank Michael for everything he has done for me throughout this pregnancy and most of all during delivery. There is no question that being with Michael is the smartest thing I've ever done and Zoe is lucky to call him Dad. The reason we had a planned c-section was that Zoe was 'unstable lie'. In the 4 weeks before she was due she was breech, head down, breech, and then head down again. As it was explained to us, this is pretty rare. They expected that even if she was in the right position when I went into labor, she would turn during contractions creating a dangerous situation for all of us. She Poops Because She Cares

One week ago today, Zoe was born. She seems to have adjusted to life in West Philly fairly well. Her pink blanket is one of her favorites to snuggle up with; however, we did learn that much like her father, she hates to bathe. So her first appointment with the peditrician was Wednesday at 11:00am. She seemed to enjoy her ride in the car again, and by that I mean she was passed out the whole way there. The doctor said she was looking good. The jaundice that she had in the hospital is no longer a concern now that she's eating and going to the bathroom regularly. Also, she's working her way back up to her birth weight. After being born at 8lbs 8ozs, she dropped down to 7lbs 13ozs when she was discharged from the hospital. At her appointment she weighed in at 8lbs 3ozs. Later in the day while I was out shopping for essentials (and comic books) Zoe was getting fussy with her mother. We're not entirely sure what the issue was, but we did find out that she loves her swing....

What You Talking About Zoe?

For a while now, Zoe has used several words in rotation. It's hard to say when or what her first word was, but somewhere around 12 months she seemed to be saying "ball" and "cat" regularly. Cat was most likely her first word. At least it was the first word caught on film. We should probably take a moment here to recall the progression of what she calls us. It started out normally with "mama" and "dada". Then progressed to "mommy," but it took a strange turn before it made its way to "daddy". There were several steps before that one. In no particular order, they were "da-mommy", "dummy" and "bummy". My personal favorite was when she would call me "dadadadadadada", but that didn't last very long. Today we're just mommy and daddy.
