All By Myself (With Zoe)

Yesterday was Mother's Day, and even though I didn't get any pictures while we were out, I had taken some the night before. Also, on Saturday morning I took a number of pictures of Zoe just lying in our bed. You can see a few of them here, but all of them are in Zoe's set on Flickr.

So today marks the first day in a two week stretch where Zoe and I will be home alone while Cheryl goes back to work. Since I got to be the boss (kind of) today, at the very least I was able to dress our daughter for the day's activities.

We had a great time hanging out on her changing table while I read her a couple of books. She seemed to like Where the Wild Things Are more than Olivia, but probably only because the pictures are larger. After that, she was sort of awake, kind of napping and ate a little bit while I had a virtual book club meeting with a couple of friends. She really seemed to like looking at George and his beard on the computer. He got a couple of smiles out of Zoe. After that it was the rest of her bottle and some time in the swing while I washed some dishes. Then I packed up everything I could think of so we could go visit Cheryl at work.

By the time we got home Zoe was very hungry, so she downed another bottle and then napped for a couple of hours before we left to meet Cheryl for her walk home. All in all, it was a pretty good day. I mean, what did people think would happen? It's not like I don't know how to put on a diaper.

Italy - Day 8 - Florence

We only had one full day in Florence, so we wanted to make the most of it. Getting up at a reasonable hour, we made our way down to the market for some breakfast. There were lots of baked goods, a truffle omelette sandwich, and plenty of fruit for Zoe, all of it fresh and delicious. Fueled up and good to go, we made our way to the first stop on our list, Giotto's Bell Tower. On the way we saw some street art, bought Zoe a new hat, and Zoe mailed out one of her first postcards. Arriving in the square, there were hundreds of people packed around the bell tower. No matter how far away I stood, I couldn't get the entire structure in frame, but it was awesome to see up close. We continued our trek south past the carousel towards the bronze boar. People were lined up to take pictures, rub it's snout and drop some money into the fountain for luck. Once our pictures were taken and our luck secured, we made our way through the leather vendors to check out some more bui

A Couple Of Visits

This past weekend the Carusos flew home on Friday. John and Annabelle took a later flight and actually spent Friday evening with us here at casa de Shelreno. It wasn't a long stay, but it is always nice to see my goddaughter. Her and Zoe had fun playing with the grill and then enjoyed a lovely breakfast together the following morning. You can tell they're good friends by the goofy faces they make together. On Sunday, I packed Zoe up in the car to take a trip up to Langhorne to visit with Mimi and Joe Pop. We went with Mimi to a nearby park. Apart from smacking her head right into the side of a picnic table, she learned to drive some cars. She already seems to have a little road rage. After that we went back to the house to ice her head... er... I mean, so she could take a nap. She was super tired, but when she woke up she was full of energy. Joe Pop was home and he showed her around the animals in his room, including the dogs. I think she was a little excited to see

Italy - Day 6 - Rome

Since this was our last full day in Rome, we decided to head towards Vatican City. After crossing a bridge, we made our way down the steps to follow the Tiber because Zoe wanted to explore closer to the water. Approaching the Vatican, we stopped just out of smoting range, for Cheryl's protection, before deciding that the view from the gates would suffice. From there we decided we would head out to try some very highly recommended pizza from Bonci. Zoe had to make a stop along the way for some gelato and a bathroom break, which was great because it took an hour to get our food. That being said, it was totally worth the wait! The pizza was amazing and the deep fried pasta balls were bizarre and delicious. While Cheryl was waiting, Zoe and I bought from fresh fruit and vegetables so that she would have something to eat. After a late lunch, we decided to make our way home. As we were about to cross the river, we passed Castle San Angelo and decided to make a stop. Thi
