Mother's Day

So today was Mother's Day, which was Cheryl's first. She only asked for two things:

1) To sleep in.
2) Breakfast.

She got up early to bring Zoe to bed, but after that I did my best to keep Zoe comfortable so we could both rest. Once she was hungry, I got up and made us both banana and chocolate chip pancakes. All in all, a good start to the day.

After that, we packed up the family and made our way down to Penns Landing to take a look around the Art Star Craft Bazaar. There were a ton of vendors with all sorts of great prints, shirts, nick nacks and everything in between. The weather was great and Zoe was very cooperative as she slept the entire time, including lunch at the Khyber Pass Pub and the trip home.

The day before we took Zoe to her first roller derby bout. She seemed to be fine for a little while, but I guess all the noise got to her so we decided to leave. Before we went home we took a walk around the new fields that the University of Pennsylvania put up right next to the rink. They are gorgeous and we actually got a few pictures there.

Election Day

When Zoe was born, Barack Obama was the president. Today the country is voting to determine who will be president for the next four years. It will still be a long time before Zoe gets to cast her own vote, but when Cheryl got home today, the two of them went around the corner to our voting center and did their civic duty. Cheryl took a couple of pictures. The girls are asleep now, and the race is still too close to call, but I assume when we get up tomorrow (hopefully not in the middle of the night) we'll know who who won. Riding Together for the First Time

Today my bike was finally fixed, so I picked it up from the shop before picking Zoe up from Science Club. When she saw my bike she was very excited to go for a ride. It was overcast all day, but the weather held out and it was a beautiful evening, so we rushed home, she finished all her homework, and I loaded her bike onto the car. I packed a bag with some water and a couple snacks and we made our way to Lorimer Park. Before we took off down the trail, I wanted to take a selfie, but I was so excited that I forgot my helmet, so there are two selfies. As soon as I finished the picture she took off down the path. Fortunately I was able to catch up, phone in hand, to take a few pictures as we cruised down the trail. I am a mostly competent bike rider, but trying to pay attention to her, and the trail, and keep myself upright while holding my phone was tricky. Italy - Day 2 - Rome

Waking up in Rome to the sound of industrial work, we decided that today we would focus on Villa Borghese and all it has to offer, primarily a row boat rental. On the way there we passed by Piazza del Popolo where we took a few pictures. Zoe grabbed a phone and snapped a few for us, too! Once in the park we made a beeline for the boat rental. Along that line there were fountains and flowers we had never seen before, so we stopped for a quick look. My favorite is Zoe taking her own selfies. She makes such wonderful faces. Making our way through all of the distractions, we found the lake that surrounds the Temple of Asclepius and rented a boat. We all hopped in and I rowed us out into the water, but it wasn't long before Zoe insisted that she could paddle the boat, so we swapped spots and the cutest boat captain took over.
