Paris - Day Three: Picasso Museum, Botanical Gardens, Photobooths

On our third day in Paris we had tickets to go to the Picasso Museum in the morning. When we came out of the Metro stop, there was a large canvas on the sidewalk with someone drawing on it. As we approached, the people making the mural told Zoe to go and make her mark. She was not shy and dove right in.

After she was done with her art, we made our way in to the museum. There were a lot of great pieces to see, but it wasn't really Zoe's cup of tea. Although there were a few pieces that she did enjoy, a little nook in which she did her zen crab, and, of course, the gift shop.

When we were done with our visit at the museum, there were two photobooths in the area that we were able to visit. One was in a Bon Ton and the other was in a gallery of sorts. The one in the gallery was opened around the stool, which is something we'd never seen before.

After the photoboothing we took the Metro towards the Botanical Gardens. We had to cross the river from our stop, so we took a moment on the bridge to enjoy the day.

As we made our way in to the Botanical Gardens, we came across a series of hippopotamus statues of varying sizes. Of course, as you well know, when you come across statues of hippopotamuses of varying sizes, you have to stop and take a bunch of pictures. So we did.

Once we were done with the statues, there were all sorts of animals to see. We went in to several reptile houses to see snakes and frogs. There was also a number of other animals, like red pandas and flamingos; however, the most impressive display was from these birds.

These birds were such a hit because there were about half a dozen females in the enclosure and only one male. Well, this guy really wanted to strut his stuff to get the ladies' attention, and that he did. Of course, that lady was Zoe and she used a set of leaves to try and woo him right back. I'm not sure, but I think this is love.

It was such a good dance, even Cheryl got in on the act!

Shortly after she donned her leaves, about 5 French policemen showed up. Needless to say, she was thrilled with the results. Being a Botanical Garden, there were a number of plants to see, as well as the animals. On the way out, we stopped to take a few more pictures.

The flowers were beautiful, but I know that I was lucky enough to go home with the two most gorgeous ladies around.

All that was left to do was to stop and get some dinner. We chose a local restaurant that was near our apartment. The meal was delicious, but even more amazing was that Zoe ate a new food. She tried, and seemed to enjoy, actual potatoes. Now I'm not talking about fries, but real, skin-on, potatoes. Just watch this sequence of her eating one!

Now I know that she had to dip them in ketchup, but at least she ate them. And that concludes day three in Paris. Again, you can check out Flickr for the whole day's worth of pictures if this wasn't enough for you.

Meet the Flintstones?!?

Cheryl wanted me to share the following with everyone. These are her words, not mine. Frankly, I know I'm the lucky one. So obviously the blog is Michael's thing, which is great really because if it were up to me it would have started and ended with 99 days left! But I wanted to make a post so I could thank Michael for everything he has done for me throughout this pregnancy and most of all during delivery. There is no question that being with Michael is the smartest thing I've ever done and Zoe is lucky to call him Dad. The reason we had a planned c-section was that Zoe was 'unstable lie'. In the 4 weeks before she was due she was breech, head down, breech, and then head down again. As it was explained to us, this is pretty rare. They expected that even if she was in the right position when I went into labor, she would turn during contractions creating a dangerous situation for all of us. The day of surgery I was still pretty calm. Once I was prepp...

She Poops Because She Cares

One week ago today, Zoe was born. She seems to have adjusted to life in West Philly fairly well. Her pink blanket is one of her favorites to snuggle up with; however, we did learn that much like her father, she hates to bathe. So her first appointment with the peditrician was Wednesday at 11:00am. She seemed to enjoy her ride in the car again, and by that I mean she was passed out the whole way there. The doctor said she was looking good. The jaundice that she had in the hospital is no longer a concern now that she's eating and going to the bathroom regularly. Also, she's working her way back up to her birth weight. After being born at 8lbs 8ozs, she dropped down to 7lbs 13ozs when she was discharged from the hospital. At her appointment she weighed in at 8lbs 3ozs. Later in the day while I was out shopping for essentials (and comic books) Zoe was getting fussy with her mother. We're not entirely sure what the issue was, but we did find out that she loves her swing....

What You Talking About Zoe?

For a while now, Zoe has used several words in rotation. It's hard to say when or what her first word was, but somewhere around 12 months she seemed to be saying "ball" and "cat" regularly. Cat was most likely her first word. At least it was the first word caught on film. We should probably take a moment here to recall the progression of what she calls us. It started out normally with "mama" and "dada". Then progressed to "mommy," but it took a strange turn before it made its way to "daddy". There were several steps before that one. In no particular order, they were "da-mommy", "dummy" and "bummy". My personal favorite was when she would call me "dadadadadadada", but that didn't last very long. Today we're just mommy and daddy. Over the past couple of weeks, Zoe has been mimicking words we say, but just this past weekend she seemed to develop a whole set of words. For ins...
